The Legacy
Village life embraces a wealth of shared experiences. Community engagement across a wider life style than a selfish stand alone existence, is an essential element of the English way of life.
North Creakers are enthusiastic about that spirit, embracing everyone whether young or old; rich and not so well off.
We have inherited a 250+ year old tradition of change bell ringing at St Mary’s North Creake. We owe it to our predecessors to maintain what they created, and to pass that knowledge on to our successors.
We have the opportunity to bring, enhance and develop the skills and expertise of change bell ringing to the next generation of young bell ringers at St Mary’s, North Creake.
Restoring the bells of St Mary’s to their former glory will not be the exclusive preserve of a select few. It involves the whole community.
This is an eight stage, 4-year programme from January 2008 to December 2011 to get St Mary’s change bell ringing in perfect shape to welcome the Olympics in 2012.
1. Silence and dismantle the bells and the structures
2. Build a new steel platform to take the weight of the bell frame
3. Re-engineer the bell frame to go to a full octave of 8 bells
4. Replace, re-cast and re-tune the existing bells
5. Install a new bell ringing gallery
6. Start the Youth change ringing training legacy
7. Create our youth hand bell ringing team
8. Ring in the new bells at Christmas 2011
